Oriented Strand Board (OSB) is manufactured from carefully arranged wood strands bonded with high-quality adhesives under heat and pressure, providing excellent structural strength and dimensional stability. It features a uniform texture, consistent thickness, and a rough-sanded surface suitable for a variety of construction and finishing applications. Known for its durability, load-bearing capacity, and cost-effectiveness, OSB is widely used in flooring, wall sheathing, roofing, furniture, and packaging projects. Available in multiple thicknesses, sizes, and grades, it meets diverse technical, environmental, and performance requirements, offering a versatile and reliable solution for both residential and commercial applications. Its excellent impact resistance and ease of machining make it ideal for demanding construction projects, while its performance remains stable across a wide range of climatic conditions.
OSB (Oriented Strand Board), also known as oriented strand particle board or OSB board, is an engineered wood panel made by arranging long, thin wood strands in specific orientations, combining them with environmentally friendly adhesives, and hot-pressing the mat under high temperature and high pressure.
Thanks to its unique cross-oriented structure, OSB offers excellent structural strength, good moisture resistance (in higher-grade products), strong nail-holding ability, and outstanding dimensional stability. It is widely used in building construction—such as wall sheathing, roofing, and subflooring in wood-frame houses—as well as in furniture manufacturing and interior decoration.
Building Structures: Roof sheathing, wall panels, floor subflooring (especially in wood-frame construction).
Interior Finishing: Wall cladding, ceilings, formwork support (for concrete pouring).
Packaging and Shipping: Replaces wooden crates, pallets, etc.
Furniture Manufacturing: Cabinets, bookshelves (usually requires veneering or surface finishing).

| Production Advantages | 1) Tight construction and high strength; 2) Minimal twisting, delamination, or warping; 3) Waterproof and stable in natural or wet environments; 4) Low formaldehyde emission; 5) Excellent nailing strength, easy to saw, drill, groove, and polish; 6) Good heat and sound insulation, easy surface coating; 7) OSB/3 suitable for flat roof applications, superior to particleboard. |

Strong resistance to bending, compression, and shear
Can replace plywood in many structural applications
Cross-oriented strands help reduce cracking, warping, and bending
Made from fast-growing wood species and small-diameter logs
High wood utilization rate, supporting sustainable and eco-friendly production
Visible wood strand texture on the surface
Popular in industrial-style and loft-style interior design
According to the European standard (EN 300), OSB is divided into four grades based on moisture resistance:
OSB/1: General-purpose, for dry environments (e.g., furniture, interior decoration).
OSB/2: Load-bearing, for structural use in dry environments (e.g., wall sheathing, floor underlayment).
OSB/3: Moisture-resistant load-bearing, suitable for humid environments (e.g., bathroom/kitchen sheathing, roof decking).
OSB/4: High-strength moisture-resistant, for high-load humid environments (e.g., heavy-duty structural applications).

| Advantages | Disadvantages |
|---|---|
| High strength and excellent load-bearing capacity | Rough surface, requires finishing for decorative use |
| Good moisture resistance (especially higher-grade OSB) | Edges are prone to moisture absorption and require proper sealing |
| Cost-effective compared with plywood | May produce splinters during cutting or processing |
| Environmentally controllable with low-formaldehyde adhesives | Low-quality products may still emit formaldehyde |
This mainly depends on the adhesives used and certifications:
Common emission grades: E0 / E1
International certifications: CARB, EPA, FSC
For interior decoration, it is recommended to choose E0/E1-grade OSB/3.

Moisture Protection: For damp environments, choose OSB/3 or higher grade and ensure edges are sealed.
Construction Tips: Use dust-reducing tools when cutting, and allow for expansion gaps during installation.
Eco-Friendly Selection: Check formaldehyde emission standards (e.g., E0, E1, CARB certification).
